I was born in Japan but raised in the States. I'm fortunate to have lived in a bunch of places in the South, the Northeast and the Midwest.I'm super-low key & boring at home, but I "turn it on" and channel a far more interesting person for Tennis & Business :)

Work

I've had a dozen jobs in half a dozen industries. My favorite jobs have been in technology - music software, audio/video and computer hardware.I gravitate towards small businesses and tend to work in operations, administration or management.

Tennis

I'm an active tennis player and instructor. "Tennis Dave" is perennially upbeat and friendly, almost annoyingly so. Dunno how/why it happens.

Martial Arts

The thing I do is super-different from most conceptions of "Martial Arts." Shinto Muso Ryu Jo is a historical martial art. I started in 2000.It's purely practical, but only for one specific time & place (Japan in the 1600's). To give you an idea, some people call training sessions "Study Groups."

Controllers

I had a spell building custom MIDI controllers. These were bespoke units or prototypes that controlled music software. It was an incredibly fulfilling experience, and continues (sporadically) today.

Writing

It started with an undergraduate honors thesis on the history of the DJ Mixer (seriously). Then a bunch of articles and features for a DJ magazine. Finally, some satirical articles for the video game world. "Christian Speedrunning Community Argues Any% Begins at the Loading Screen" is my proudest achievement in writing.
